Messy Play
A practical course covering basic play activities. Sessions will include making dough, mixing paint, using junk, collage, rhythms, rhymes, music and storytelling.
Child Development
Theories behind child development and a closer look at physical, cognitive and emotional development. Including language and behavioural development.
Early Maths and Science
Encouraging maths and science skills, measuring, size, time, estimating, observation and providing the works to accompany the experiences.
Safeguarding Children
An overview of child protection issues, signs and symptoms of abuse, protecting children from abuse and dealing with the child and family.
Curriculum Planning
Planning your curriculum, short, medium and long term planning. Ideas to meet the stages of development of the children in your care.
Behaviour Management
How adults influence children’s behaviour. Praising the good and techniques for dealing with unacceptable behaviour.
Working with a management committee
Roles and responsibilities of the management committee and how staff and committee can work together to effectively manage the play provision.
Observation and record-keeping
The basic course includes a range of observation methods that are easy and practical to use within an early years setting as well as ways of keeping records.
Equality and Diversity
Covering all aspects of implementing the Equal Opportunities policy and embedding into all aspects of working with children.
The Leadership Role
This course is linked to the CCLD level 3 and discusses what a leader should know and be doing in the setting.
